The Greater Moncton SPCA is the largest animal shelter east of Montreal, handling nearly 7000 animals per year, including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, and many other exotic pets. All of the animals they adopt out are already spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, and microchipped, as well as their nails trimmed and ears cleaned. Dogs are given a rabies vaccine and cats are treated for fleas. Potential adopters must fill out an application, which can be found on their website, along with other adoption information. They have a volunteer program for members of the community to walk and play with the shelter animals and also offer free educational tours of the shelter. The SPCA relies solely on donations and fundraising events to cover operating costs, as well as donated items such as cleaning supplies, pet food and cat litter. Upcoming fundraisers and a donation page can be found on their website, or you can visit them in person at 116 Greenock St. in Moncton.

Fulfilling Hearts is a local non-profit dog rescue group, rescuing neglected, abandoned, or injured dogs, placing them in approved foster homes, and finding them forever families. Each FHR dog goes through a temperament test and training in the foster care and is spayed/neutered and vaccinated. They work hard to match every dog with a family that fits their lifestyle to prevent them from being re-homed in the future. An application, home check, and fee are required for adoption. If the adoptive family can no longer care for the dog, they must notify FHR and surrender the dog back into their care. The rescue covers the costs of all food, crates, and bedding, as well as medical attention and treatments while in the foster home. The more foster homes available, the more dogs they can rescue, so they always welcome new fosters. Please contact them if you are interested in fostering or adopting, please visit their website for the proper application forms.
