Consider spaying or neutering your dog. Talk to our team about our top-notch surgical care.
The team at Riverview Animal Health Centre truly believes that spaying or neutering your pet is one of the best decisions you can do for not only your pet but for the overpopulation of unwanted animals. Spaying and neutering your pet will help to prevent unwanted puppies that can grow up to have unfortunate lives. It is said that there are up to 70 million homeless animals in North America. Spaying and neutering your dog also has great health benefits. Certain cancers and uterine infections can develop if your dog is not spayed or neutered. Another known benefit of spaying or neutering your dog is the prevention of unwanted behaviours like urine marking and roaming. Behaviour issues are one of the number one reasons animals end up in shelters each year.
Spaying or neutering is performed by a veterinarian. While your dog is under anesthetic, the veterinarian will perform the surgery to remove the patient’s reproductive organs, which allows your dog to become sterile and prevents them from reproducing.
Our veterinarians recommend that dogs are spayed or neutered around the age of 5-months-old. This way, females do not go through their first heat and males are not mature enough to start exhibiting any learned behavioural issues.
Spaying and neutering costs are discussed in-depth, during your puppy’s initial health exams. If your puppy has gone elsewhere for their health exams, we are more than happy to offer a complimentary exam with our veterinarian to ensure your puppy is as healthy as possible for a surgery. We also discuss the cost involved with the surgery at that time. If you would like further information, please do not hesitate to contact our team at 506-387-4015.
